Bottle Bowling
These bottles will entertain your little ones while also creating a fun and engaging play challenge.
What you need:
- Clean empty drink bottles
- Paint (acrylic will work better but poster paint still coats the bottle enough)
- Medium/large Ball
What to do:
- Squirt a small amount of paint in the bottom of each water bottle.
- If your paint is thick, you’re going to want to add a small amount (like 1 tsp or 1 capful) of water to each bottle. This will make the paint a little runnier so it will be easier to shake. Don’t add too much water or your paint won’t be thick enough and won’t cover the bottle properly! If your paint is runny enough, you can skip adding water.
- Put the caps back on all your bottles. Shake each bottle vigorously to spread the paint all through the bottle. Kids love this step!
- Remove cap and pour out any excess paint/water. Keep the cap off and allow your paint bottles to dry. This is best left overnight. When dry, you can put the lids back on. Optionally, if you’re worried about your kids being able to open the bottles, you could use insulation tape to secure the lids on. You can still play with them even when the paint is wet if your child isn’t likely to open the lid.
- If your bottles blow over outside, add a little rice or lentils once the paint is dry to weight the bottle.
- Set up your bowling pins, grab a ball and have fun!
Little things…For younger children, you can set up just a few bottles and have them stand close, using a small round ball to knock them over. As your child develops their skills, you can move the bottles further away and using different sized balls to throw.
