Playgroup WA members have the chance to participate in a number of workshops throughout the year, hosted by qualified Playgroup WA staff. Topics include Language Development through Play, Acquiring Grants, AGM and Committee Handover and much more.
Playgroup WA provides a host of playgroup-related workshops for parents, grandparents and carers of children 0 to 5 years. They run across both metropolitan and regional areas and all workshops are facilitated by a Playgroup WA development officer or a qualified partner.
The workshops are usually free to Playgroup WA members (but bookings are essential) and most workshops are advertised via the Playgroup WA website, Facebook page and eNewsletters.
Playgroup WA development officer Michelle Roberts said most people signed up for a specific workshop to gain knowledge, learn from other parents and share experiences.
“There is so much information out there for parents with young children – sometimes it’s easy to access, but most of the time it’s a case of you just don’t know what you don’t know,” Michelle said.
“In fact whenever possible, we are flexible and tailor our workshop content to meet individual interests and needs of those attending so the more we know about why someone has signed up the better!
“And we also encourage our regional playgroups to get in touch and let us know what they want to know more about so we can organise workshops when we visit!”
“I walked into a committee that was incorporated and we have a constitution, but there are so many different ways to run a committee, so it was really helpful listening to the Department of Commerce (DoC) representative outline how things can be handled. It was useful to know when you should have everyone’s consensus on an issue or whether it could be voted on by just the committee, for example.”
