Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2017

This week is NAIDOC Week (2 – 9 July) with celebrations planned to commemorate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples around the country.

Does your playgroup have anything special planned to mark the occasion?

It’s a special week with an increasing number of government agencies, schools, local councils and workplaces recognising the importance of celebrating NAIDOC Week.

Things you can do

Here are some things you could do at playgroup to celebrate the special week:

  • Display the National NAIDOC Poster or other Indigenous posters at playgroup for families to see and discuss
  • Ask your playgroup families if they have any stories to share or if they know any Indigenous role models who might like to visit playgroup
  • Listen to Indigenous musicians/music
  • Create your own Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander art (search Pinterest for some fabulous craft ideas!)
  • Host a community BBQ or luncheon

Happy NAIDOC Week!
