Puppets – Baby

puppets babyBabies love the different types of interaction they get with you when you’re using puppets.

Did you know?

Puppets provide visual stimulation for your baby and will help to develop their eye movements (visual tracking).

Add language

Your different facial expressions and tones of voice will delight your baby and begin to open up their world of language and social interaction. Keep your utterances short and pause to give baby a chance to take a conversational turn (this may just be reaching out or making a noise). Try to keep the conversation going back and forth for several turns.

Other development

Babies will also love exploring the feel of different puppets.

Safety

Be sure to check there are no small parts that can come loose if baby starts exploring with their mouth.

Across the ages

All the activities listed on our “Play Ideas” page can be applied across different age groups. See how playing with puppets can be fun for toddlerschildren and playgroups.

Activities listed under “baby” are suitable for children under 12 months. This age is largely about babies exploring their own bodies and the world around them from the safety of a close relationship with their caregiver.
