Space Slime
Space slime (or ooblec) is really easy to make and is sure to become a playgroup favourite. Kids enjoy pulling and shaping the mixture and its strange wet/dry sensation makes it a great sensory play idea.
What you need:
- Corn flour
- Water
- Edicol dye or food colouring
- A plastic container
Pour some corn flour into a container and add the food colouring. Slowly add water until the mixture thickens to the consistency of paint.
You can either separate the ooblec into small containers for each child to play with, or keep it in one big container to promote sharing.
With regards to quantities, we recommend doing 2 parts cornflour to 1 part water (so starting with 2 cups of cornflour to 1 cup of water) and go from there.
If you’ve never made ooblec before and are unsure of the consistency, here’s a tip: once it is mixed you should be able to press a handful of it into a ball in your hand – when you release pressure the ball should go back to a liquid consistency.
